frequently asked questions

“When I realized the storm was inevitable, I made it my medicine.”
Andrea Gibson
Where are you located?
Zelena Medicine is located in Willits town center in Basalt, Colorado. We work with people who come to see us from as far as Newcastle and Rifle, Glenwood Springs to Aspen, Marble and Redstone.
Does acupuncture really work?
Yes! Years of clinical experience and also research studies show acupuncture's effectiveness for a wide range of complaints. In fact, year after year, there is more research involving acupuncture than there is physical therapy. Major hospitals and health centers such as MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Mayo Clinic offer the services of board certified and licensed acupuncture and Eastern medicine professionals. How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on the specifics of your treatment plan. Zelena Medicine requires an initial consultation, where we meet to review your health picture, goals, and discuss how we can help.
We are proud to work with folks who are committed to their health and wellbeing, and are deeply invested in offering services and great results. For that reason, Zelena Medicine does not offer single treatments without a comprehensive plan: one treatment miracle cures is just not how the body tends to work.
Do you take my insurance?
We believe in integrating a wide range of approaches, specifically tailored to an individual person's health picture. If insurance plans cover services at all, they tend to do so in a very limited manner, while forcing treatment be done in a way that is less effective.
Zelena Medicine is out of network with all health insurance plans, because it allows us to keep cost reasonable while putting you in control of your health. We are focused on offering excellent care instead of shaping treatment to the narrow demands of an insurance company.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Zelena Medicine aims for a gentle, comfortable experience for all of our patients. Additionally, we offer a number of needle-free options for our highly sensitive folks.
If you choose a treatment such as acupuncture or injection therapy, let's be honest, needles are invasive and it would be unrealistic to say that you won't feel anything. In fact, studies show that experiencing a mild sensation we call " De Qi" produces better results, because it means that your body is indeed activating and responding to the treatment.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes! There is no medical intervention that comes without any risks or side effects. In the hands of a well-trained practitioner acupuncture is considered generally safe and effective, including for cancer patients. Possible risks and side effects are discussed before you begin treatment.
Can I use my FSA or HSA card?
It is generally possible to use an HSA or FSA card for acupuncture treatment. We recommend you confirm the requirements with your specific plan.
