Holistic Medicine & Acupuncture FAQs
Serving Basalt, Aspen, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and the Roaring Fork Valley.
Cost of Treatment
How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on the specifics of your treatment plan. Zelena Medicine requires an initial consultation, where we meet to review your health picture, goals, and discuss how we can help. We work with folks who are committed to their health and wellbeing, and the practice is deeply invested in offering effective treatment and care.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
It is not required that you have a referral from your doctor, though it is important to have medical records applicable to the reason you're coming to see us. Communication and collaboration among your healthcare team can be integral to a successful treatment.
Do you take my insurance?
Zelena Medicine does not bill insurance directly. We are considered out of network, and that is on purpose: it allows us to focus our time and effort entirely on your care, instead of on the bare minimum that insurance may or may not decide to cover. If your plan covers acupuncture you can request a superbill that you can submit for reimbursement.
Can I use my FSA or HSA card?
It is generally possible to use an HSA or FSA card for acupuncture treatment. We recommend you confirm the requirements with your specific plan.
Treatment FAQs
Does acupuncture really work?
Yes! Years of clinical experience and also research studies show acupuncture's effectiveness for a wide range of complaints. In fact, year after year, there is more research involving acupuncture than there is physical therapy. Major hospitals and health centers such as MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Mayo Clinic offer the services of board certified and licensed acupuncture and Eastern medicine professionals. Click here for a more in depth look at evidence based acupuncture.
Do the needles hurt?
Zelena Medicine aims for a gentle, comfortable experience for all of our patients. Additionally, we offer a number of needle-free options for our highly sensitive folks.
If you choose a treatment such as acupuncture or injection therapy, let's be honest, needles are invasive and it would be unrealistic to say that you won't feel anything. In fact, studies show that experiencing a mild sensation we call " De Qi" produces better results, because it means that your body is indeed activating and responding to the treatment.
Are acupuncture and dry needling safe?
Yes! In the hands of a well-trained practitioner acupuncture and dry needling are considered safe and effective, including for cancer patients. There is no medical intervention that comes without any risks or side effects and Zelena Medicine follows State and professional safety guidelines and regulations. Possible risks and side effects are discussed before you begin treatment.
